Angcog <_value> NADA PHL_2009_CLPS-Broiler_v01_EN_M_v01_A_OCS_v01 Commercial Livestock and Poultry Survey - Broiler, 2009 CLPS-Broiler 2009 PHL_2009_CLPS-Broiler_v01_EN_M_v01_A_OCS Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) NADA Bureau of Agricultural Statistics Director Agricultural Survey [ag/oth] The Commercial Livestock and Poultry Survey (CLPS) is a nationwide sample survey of farm enterprises/establishments. It started in 1976 and was conducted annually. In 1989, the CLPS was conducted every quarter for broiler and swine, and semi-annually for carabao, cattle, goat and duck. The major data items collected are inventory, production,and disposition. One of the data series on commercial livestock and poultry commodities is on Broiler Chicken. In this case, we refer to the survey as Commerical Livestock and Poultry Survey- Broiler. The conduct of CLPS-Broiler was maintained by BAS until improvements on the design were done under the "Statistical Development and Analysis in Support of the Agribusiness Sector (SDASAS)" project funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Updating of the broiler list frame was conducted in 1994 and 1997 under the same project. In 2006, the CLPS-Broiler adopted the updated list frame based on the results of the 2006 Avian Population Survey (APS). The latest improvements on the survey instruments and processing system were introduced in 2009. The questionaire was revised to include data on disposition by area of destination, and the processing system was enhanced. Broiler Production Agricultural, forestry and rural industry [2.1] The Commercial Livestock and Poultry Survey-Broiler (CLPS-Broiler) is conducted quarterly and seeks to provide information on the inventory or standing stocks of broiler; number of day old chicks (DOCs) received/placed in the farm; number of birds/broilers harvested or produced in a quarter; disposition by intention, and by area of destination; and the average weight per head of broilers disposed. Philippines National Coverage Agricultural holdings Commercial broiler farms including broiler contract growers Sample survey data [ssd] The scope for the survey includes: inventory or standing stocks of broiler; number of day old chicks received/delivered; number of broilers disposed/sold per month; disposition by area of destination; and the average weight per head of broilers disposed. The domain of the survey is the province. All farm operators or farm establishments in the province constitute the frame for the survey. The sampling frame was updated based on the 2006 Avian Population Survey (APS). The sampling design considers the number of farms and the corresponding maximum housing capacities of the farms in the province. In provinces with 20 farms or below, farms are completely enumerated. Provinces, however, with large number of farms or those with 21 or more farms/farm establishments, stratification is applied using Dalenius Hodges method with the maximum housing capacity as the stratification variable. The number of strata per province ranges from 2 to 4 depending on the population or the heterogeneity or homogeneity of the stratification variable. Sample allocation for each stratum is done using the Neyman procedure with coefficient of variation set at 5%. A minimum of 5 samples per stratum is allocated, i.e.; if the computed allocated sample size for a stratum is less than 5, 5 samples are taken from the stratum. A stratum may have less than 5 samples only if the total number of farms in that stratum is less than 5. Selection of samples from each stratum is done using simple random sampling. The sampling procedure is as follows: 1. Ranking of the farms in ascending order according to their maximum housing capacity; 2. Delineating the stratum boundaries using Dalenius-Hodges method (Unique stratum boundaries are derived for each province); 3. Determining the total number of commercial animal farms per stratum; 4. Allocating sample size for each stratum using Neyman procedure 5. Selecting the required number of sample farms using simple random sampling. Face-to-face paper [f2f] Sample weights were calculated for each stratum. Manual editing was carried out by the data collector who reviews and completely fills up all items in the questionaires. He verifies and makes sure it is consistent with the requirements in the editing that was provided by the Central Office. Electronic data processing was also carried out. The Provincial Processing Officer (PPO) of BAS Provincial Operation Centers (POCs) are responsible in data coding, encoding, electronic data cleaning and generation of of system's generated outputs by barangay, municipality and province. The provincial outputs are submitted to the Regional Processing Officer (RPO) of BAS Regional Operations Centers (ROCs) to come up with the regional estimates. The response rate for the survey was 85%. The Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) strictly observes the confidentiality of data. As stated in the BAS' survey questionnaires and the forms relevant to the conduct of any statistical inquiry, data provided by the respondents shall be used solely for statistical purposes. As specified in the agreement under access conditions, users are required to cite the source of data in accordance with the citation requirement provided with the dataset. The citation requirement for this study is as follows: "Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, Commercial Livestock and Poultry Survey-Quarterly Survey of Broiler Commercial Farms, Version 1.0 of the licensed dataset (December 2009), provided by the BAS Electronic Archiving and Network Services. http://beans.bas.gov.ph" The datasets of this study are categorized under licensed files. Access to licensed datasets is through request and is only granted to Data Users/Researchers with a legally registered sponsoring agency (university, company, research centre, national or international organization, etc.). The Data Users/Researchers must agree to comply with the following: 1. Fill up a Data Access Agreement that will be provided. 2. Copies of the restricted data or any data created on the basis of the original data will not be copied or made available to anyone other than those mentioned in this Data Access Agreement, unless formally authorized by the BAS. 3. The data will only be processed for the stated statistical purpose in the agreement and not for investigation of specific individuals or organizations. Data will not in any way be used for any administrative, proprietary or law enforcement purposes. 4. The dataset must not be made to match with other datasets. 5. The Data Users/Researchers shall not attempt to identify any individual person, family, business, enterprise or organization. If such a unique disclosure is made inadvertently, no use will be made as to the identity of any person or establishment discovered. The identification will not be revealed to any other person not included in the Data Access Agreement. 6. The Data Users/Researchers must observe security measures to prevent unauthorized access to licensed microdata acquired from the BAS. The microdata must be destroyed upon the completion of their research. Destruction of the microdata will be confirmed in writing by the Data Users/Researchers to the BAS. 7. Any books, articles, conference papers, theses, dissertations, reports, or other publications that employ data obtained from the BAS/BAS Electronic Archiving and Network Services (BEANS) will cite the source of data in accordance with the citation requirement provided with the dataset. 8. If there are any changes or additional requirements in the orginal request, the Data User/Researcher must apply for another request. 9. Breaches of the Data Access Agreement will be taken seriously and the BAS will take action against those responsible for the lapses if wilful or accidental. Failure to comply with the directions of the BAS will be deemed to be a major breach of the agreement and may involve recourse to legal proceedings. The BAS will maintain and share with partner data archives a record of those individuals and organizations which are responsible for breaching the terms of the Data Access Agreement and will impose sanctions on release of future data to these parties. The data users/researchers acknowledge that the BAS and the agency funding the study bear no liabilities and responsibilities for any particular, indirect, or consequential damages or any damages, whatsoever resulting from loss of use, or of data in connection with the use or for interpretations or inferences based upon such uses.
