The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO launched a household survey in Sierra Leone through the Data in Emergencies Monitoring (DIEM-Monitoring) System to monitor agricultural livelihoods and food security. This ninth-round survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews from 10 February to 2 March 2023 and reached 2 682 households. Data were collected during the post-harvest period across five provinces, and sixteen districts. The survey is representative at admin level 2. \n\nFor more information, see https:\/\/data-in-emergencies.fao.org\/pages\/monitoring.","coll_dates":[{"start":"2023-02-10","end":"2023-03-02","cycle":""}],"nation":[{"name":"Sierra Leone","abbreviation":"SLE"}],"geog_coverage":"National coverage","analysis_unit":"Households","data_kind":"Sample survey data [ssd]","notes":"The description of the survey covered information related to the following:\n- HOUSEHOLD : household information\n- INCOME SOURCES, SHOCKS : income changes, shocks experienced by households\n- CROP PRODUCTION : crops planted, area planted, area harvested, crop production difficulties \n- CROP MARKETING : crop sale difficulties, crop sale price\n- LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION : types of livestock present on holding, number of livestock, livestock production difficulties\n- LIVESTOCK MARKETING : livestock sale, livestock sale difficulties, livestock sale price\n- FISHERIES PRODUCTION : fish activity, comparison of fish production \n- FISHERIES MARKETING : fish sale, fish sale difficulties, fish sale price\n- FOOD SECURITY AND CONSUMPTION : food consumption, food utilization, coping strategies\n- NEEDS ASSISTANCE : open questions on the needs for assistance"},"method":{"data_collection":{"sampling_procedure":"Data were collected during the post-harvest period across five provinces, and the following sixteen districts: Eastern (Kailahun, Kenema and Kono districts), Northern (Bombali, Falaba, Koinadugu and Tonkolili districts), North West (Kambia, Kerene and Port Loko districts), Southern (Bo, Bonthe, Moyamba, Kono and Pujehun districts) and Western (Western Area Rural and Western Area Urban).\n\nSurveys are designed based on country-specific needs, objectives, and constraints.
