      <sampProc><![CDATA[The survey was based on a nationally representative sample of individuals aged 5 years and older. Households were selected using a stratified cluster sampling design, with the Lebanese governorates forming the strata and the districts within the governorates forming the clusters. Within clusters, households were selected at random using probability proportional to size sampling; taking into account the distribution of the Lebanese population classified by sex and age groups (5-year intervals) as estimated by the Central Administration for Statistics in Lebanon in 2004. Sample size calculation was performed based on previously estimated prevalence rates for obesity. As such, the prevalence rate of obesity (17 percent among adults) was taken as the  reference within an allowed error of 1.5 percent and 95 percent confidence. 
 
The field work was conducted between March 2008 and October 2009 with a final sample including 3 656 subjects. The final dataset, after implementation of exclusion criteria, contained the records of 1 515 males and 1 581 females, a total of 3 096 individuals. ]]></sampProc>

      <collSitu><![CDATA[Dietary intake was assessed using the multiple pass 24-hour dietary recall approach. Interviewers followed the five steps of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Automated  Multiple-Pass Method to collect the 24-hour dietary recalls. The steps were:
1. Quick list
2. Forgotten foods list
3. Time and occasion at which foods were consumed
4. Detail cycle
5. Final probe review

The interviewer obtained information regarding the food consumed by the participant, its portion size, preparation methods, and the brand of foods and beverages consumed, if applicable. To assist subjects in assessing the portion/amount of food consumed, quantification tools, such as household measures and graduated food models, were used.]]></collSitu>
