The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO and the World Food Programme (WFP) launched a Round 5, randomised telephone interviews survey from 10 December 2022 to 27 January 2023 in Myanmar. The random sample targetted 4,200 households (300 per States\/Region) in the 14 States\/Regions: Ayeyarwady, Yangon, Bago, Magway, Mandalay, Sagaing, Chin, Kayin, Kayah, Mon, Shan, Kachin, Tanintharyi, and Rakhine.\n\nFor more information, see https:\/\/data-in-emergencies.fao.org\/pages\/monitoring.","coll_dates":[{"start":"2022-12-10","end":"2023-01-27","cycle":""}],"nation":[{"name":"Myanmar","abbreviation":"MMR"}],"geog_coverage":"National coverage","analysis_unit":"Households","universe":"Entire population.","data_kind":"Sample survey data [ssd]","notes":"The survey collected information on the following areas:\n\n- HOUSEHOLD: household information \n- INCOME SOURCES, SHOCKS: income changes, shocks experienced by households \n- CROP PRODUCTION: crops planted, area planted, area harvested, crop production difficulties \n- CROP MARKETING: crop sale difficulties, crop sale price \n- LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION: types of livestock present on holding, number of livestock, livestock production difficulties \n- LIVESTOCK MARKETING: livestock sale, livestock sale difficulties, livestock sale price \n- FISHERIES PRODUCTION: fish activity, comparison of fish production \n- FISHERIES MARKETING: fish sale, fish sale difficulties, fish sale price \n- FOOD SECURITY AND CONSUMPTION: food consumption, food utilization, comping strategies \n- NEEDS ASSISTANCE: open questions on the needs for assistance"},"method":{"data_collection":{"sampling_procedure":"Surveys are designed based on country-specific needs, objectives, and constraints. They aim to achieve a 10 percent margin of error, a 95 percent confidence level, administrative-level granularity, and sufficient sample sizes for key target populations, including agricultural households.\n\nA total sample of 4200 households (300 per selected State\/Region) wasintended to be interviewed over a 30-day period. Phone numbers from previous survey rounds were reused and supplemented through Random Digit Dialing (RDD).\n\nBecause agricultural households were the primary subgroup of interest for FAO, a minimum quota of 140 agricultural households per stratum was established within the 300-household sample for both RDD and panel interviews. In Yangon Region, however, the quota was reduced to 100 agricultural households. To identify eligible respondents, a screening question on agricultural activity was asked at the beginning of each interview. GeoPoll and WFP monitored daily progress in reaching both agricultural and non-agricultural households.\n\nAs in previous rounds, FAO and WFP also applied respondent caps for highly urbanized townships, typically State\/Region capitals, in order to avoid oversampling urban populations. These caps set the maximum number of respondents that could be interviewed in a given township and were proportional to township population size. The approach had been successfully implemented in earlier survey rounds to maintain a more balanced and representative sample distribution. In addition, FAO established minimum quotas for households relying on agricultural livelihoods.\n\nUltimately, a total of 3948 households were interviewed.","coll_mode":["Computer Assisted Telephone Interview [cati]"],"research_instrument":"A link to the questionnaire has been provided in the downloads tab.","sources":[{"name":"","origin":"","characteristics":""}],"weight":"The weighting approach incorporates key demographic and socioeconomic variables to improve the representativeness of the sample:\n\n- Demographic Weights: Regional base weights were first calculated at the first administrative level (ADM1) to reflect the probability of selection within each state. \n- Quota Weights: The base weights were further adjusted using the rural\u2013urban household proportions at the ADM1 level. This adjustment corrects for the over- or under-representation of rural and urban households in the sample relative to their expected distribution in each state. \n- Education-Level Weights: The education level of the household head was used as a proxy for socioeconomic status and wealth at the ADM1 level. Religious education was recoded as \"no education\" due to the lack of baseline data for this category.","cleaning_operations":"The datasets have been edited and processed for analysis by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Data in Emergencies (DIEM) Hub at the Office of Emergencies and Resilience, with some dashboards and visualizations produced.
