<serInfo>
          Myanmar participated in the World Census of Agriculture in 1953/1954. However, the coverage of that census was limited to 2143 village tract in a neighborhood of 252 townships. A Sample Census of Agriculture was conducted in 1993, followed by a complete coverage census in 2003. The Census of Agriculture 2010 is the fourth census to be conducted in the country.

Two main types of holdings were distinguished in the census:
- Household agricultural holdings
- Special holdings, which included holding operated by non-household holdings (corporations, institutions, etc.) and by "special households"

The following minimum thresholds were applied to agricultural holdings:
- 1 large livestock (cattle/buffalo/donkey/mule)
- 4 small livestock (sheep/goat/pig)
- 30 poultry (chicken/duck/quail)
- 0.05 acres (202.3m2) of land used wholly or partly in crop cultivation]]>

Supplementary modules were collected by complete enumeration only for large agricultural holdings, aquaculture holdings and urban agricultural holdings, and by sample enumeration for other holdings.

A listing of households was undertaken between February and March 2009 and it was used for data collection for the core module.

Given that 2009 frame was obsolete when data collection for the supplementary modules begun, two-stage sampling was implemented to select 20 percent of villages in each township using probability proportional to size sampling. Subsequently, a complete listing of all households in the sampled villages was carried out to update the 2009 frame. Then, holdings were selected with systematic sampling, and a third of small agricultural holdings was selected.]]>
