In the year 2000, the 3rd National Agricultural Census (NAC) was carried out which followed a sampling census design. Since 2002, the INEC has been planning, preparing and executing a Annual Agricultural Area and Production Survey (ESPAC) applied to a sub-sample of the 3rd NAC, restoring permanently the National Agricultural Statistical System.\n\nThe ESPAC 2018 was carried out to produce statistical information on the agricultural sector, which allows for the execution and evaluation of programs and projects implemented by the state in benefit of the population.\n\nThe objective of the survey is to provide information on the agricultural sector for developing policies. More specifically, the ESPAC generates continuous, reliable and timely information on planted areas and\/ or sown, harvested, production and sales of permanent crops and temporary, existence and movement of cattle, pigs, sheep, other species, existence and movement of field birds, poultry farms and employment.","coll_dates":[{"start":"2018-09-15","end":"2018-11-15","cycle":""}],"nation":[{"name":"Ecuador","abbreviation":"ECU"}],"geog_coverage":"National coverage","analysis_unit":"Agricultural holdings","universe":"All agricultural land that has an area with agricultural production in the Ecuadorian continental territory.","data_kind":"Sample survey data [ssd]","notes":"Land use;\nArea planted or sown, harvested (alone and associated), production and sales of agricultural products;\nCattle and meat production;\nMilk production and destination;\nHeadcount of pigs and sheep;\nSales of pigs and sheep;\nHead count of other ruminants;\nExistence of field birds and poultry farms;\nSales and self-consumption of field birds and poultry farms;\nProduction, self-consumption, sales and others concerning chicken eggs;\nEmployment in the agricultural sector","study_scope":"Land use;\nArea planted or sown, harvested (alone and associated), production and sales of agricultural products;\nCattle and meat production;\nMilk production and destination;\nHeadcount of pigs and sheep;\nSales of pigs and sheep;\nHead count of other ruminants;\nExistence of field birds and poultry farms;\nSales and self-consumption of field birds and poultry farms;\nProduction, self-consumption, sales and others concerning chicken eggs;\nEmployment in the agricultural sector"},"method":{"data_collection":{"sampling_procedure":"The Annual Agricultural Area and Production Survey (ESPAC) 2018 uses the multi-frame sampling methodology, which consists of a combination of Sample Area Frame (MMA) and a Sample List Frame (MML). This statistical method is done in order to select units of research from both the SAF and the SLF.\n\nThe MML is a directory prepared by the statistical body which contains the main farms dedicated to a particular crop which are investigated in order to improve the quality of estimates. The MMA covers the entire land area, and is stratified by agricultural intensity, then divided into Sampling Segments (SSs), whose area vary according to stratum.\n\nThe universe for the MMA consists 357,062 segments, out of which 5,683 segments were sampled.
