    Series Information

The 2012 National Census of Agriculture (IV CENAGRO) helped obtain a picture of the country's agricultural sector. However, to update periodically information on production, use of resources, prices, among others, it is important to have annual or continuous surveys. The purpose of these surveys is to track farms over time, which is not possible to do with the census.
Prior to the 2014 National Agricultural Survey, there were no continuous agricultural surveys that enabled the collection of reliable and opportune data regarding Peru's agricultural sector. The 2014 ENA serves as a staring point for the development and evaluation of socio-economic projects with the agricultural sector.
From the results of the IV CENAGRO, it is estimated that 81.8% of observations were small and medium holdings whose producers depend on agricultural work. Is it therefore important to determine the needs of their agricultural activities.

    Abstract

The 2014 National Agricultural Survey is a statistical investigation that has as its fundamental purpose to generate up to date information that can be used to construct indicators that facilitate the monitoring and evaluation of the various budgetary programs within the framework of the Budget for Results that the Ministry of Economics and Finance has been implementing in the public sector, and in this way, contribute to the design and guidance of public policies that aim to improve the living standards of agricultural producers.

The specific objectives of the 2014 National Agricultural Survey are:

    • To estimate land-use, area planted and harvested, the production and yield of the main temporary and permanent crops, milk production, minor species and livestock inventory.
    • To obtain the necessary information to construct indicators of the agricultural sector that facilitate the monitoring of existing gaps between medium and small agricultural producers.
    • To provide information that enables the comparison of indicators of the budgetary programs for small and medium agricultural producers over time.

    Sampling

    Sampling Procedure

The sampling frame for the selection of the survey sample is made up of statistical information from the IV National Census of Agriculture 2012 (IV CENAGRO).

The total sample of the 2014 National Agricultural Survey is made up of 27,081 agricultural holdings, out of which 26,119 questionnaires were completed and 58 were incomplete among small and medium agricultural holdings. In terms of large agricultural holdings, 885 questionnaires were completed and 19 were incomplete.

    Deviations from the Sample Design

In the sampling design, it was expected that a total of 30,323 agricultural holdings would be interviewed, out of which 26,119 of holdings are small and medium producers, 1,007 are large holdings (Enterprises, poultry farms, pig farms). In the final sample a total 27,978 agricultural enterprises were interviewed, out of which 26,119 questionnaires were completed and 58 were incomplete among small and medium agricultural holdings. In terms of large agricultural holdings, 885 questionnaires were completed and 19 were incomplete.

    Response Rate
    1. The rate of non-response of the small and medium agricultural holdings was 1.2%
The non-response rate of small and medium agricultural holdings in the coastal region was 0.7%
The non-response rate of small and medium agricultural holdings in the mountainous region was 1.3%
The non-respsonse rate of small and medium agricultural holdings in the jungle region was 1.6%

    2. The non-response rate of large agricultural units was 4.3%
