Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
Abstract
The FAO has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). Between 23 July and 17 August 2021 FAO launched a household survey which was conducted via telephone interviews by Geopoll using a list of respondents from a previous round of data collection and from desert locust assessment contacts. Additional contacts were obtained from random digit dialling. The sample comprised 2,732 households, including 160 agricultural households in 17 regions of Somalia. In addition, face-to-face key informant interviews were conducted with 50 crop, livestock and fisheries extension officers, 55 agricultural input venders and 49 food traders. Computer assisted telephone interviews was used to conduct household survey by Geopoll, based on panel database from the previous rounds of assessments. Additional contacts were obtained from Random Digit Dialing to reach the targeted sample size. The sample included 2,739 households with initial target of 160 agricultural households in 17 regions (Awdal, Bakool, Bari, Bay, Galgaduud, Gedo, Hiraan, Lower Juba, Lower Shabelle , Middle Juba, Middle, Shabelle, Mudug, Nugaal, Sanaag, Sool, Togdheer, Woqooyi Galbeed) except Banadir, which is mainly urban. The respondents comprised of 1810 male and 922 female. The survey also included face to face Key Informant interviews that included 50 extension officers (crop, livestock, fisheries), 55 agro input venders as well as 49 food traders. No household was dropped during the data analysis.
Weighting
