    Abstract

The FAO has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). The FAO launched a household survey on 13 August 2021 to monitor agricultural livelihoods and food security in the Philippines. This first round of data collection was based on a random sample of 2 087 households that was representative at the regional level for seven of the country’s 18 regions. The data collection resumed on 1 October 2021. For more information, please go to https://data-in-emergencies.fao.org/pages/monitoring

    Sampling

    Sampling Procedure

This first round of data collection (13 August to 1 October 2021) was based on a random sample of 2 087 households which was representative at the regional level (admin 1) for seven of the country’s 18 regions. The survey was undertaken through telephone interviews using random digital dialing in Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Ilocos, Soccsksargen, Western Visayas and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

    Weighting

The weights were computed using the demographics per region (admin 1), the activity of the household (crop, livestock or agricultural production) and the percentage of households having access to fush toilets, as a proxy for wealth.
