Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC), through the Directorate of Economic Statistics and the Agricultural Statistics Unit, executes the Survey of Area and Continuous Agricultural Production ESPAC-2020.
The study is carried out nationwide, in all provinces, with the exception of Galapagos and undefined areas such as Las Golondrinas, Manga del Cura and El Piedrero. The method known as the Multiple Sampling Frame is applied, which is the combination of the Area Sampling Frame and the List Sampling Frame; the unit of observation is the terrain.
The main objective is to provide information on the agricultural sector, referring to areas planted and/or planted, harvested, to the production and sales of Permanent and Temporary crops, as well as the existence and movement of Cattle, Pigs, Sheep, Other Species. , existence of Field Birds, and Poultry Farms and the Employment of Manpower.
Which allows, among other aspects, to have the information to formulate crop plans and diversification of agricultural production, formulation of price standards and more incentives to improve agricultural production, establish a system of equitable distribution of production in the different areas of the country, contribute to sectoral economic analysis, the preparation and implementation of import and export policies for agricultural products so that the country, through the national government, can promote policies that strengthen the agricultural sector.

The type of sampling corresponds to a Stratified Probabilistic Sampling by conglomerates and by replicas, with random selection.
In each domain (province) a certain number of segments is calculated in relation to a specific sampling rate per stratum. In order to improve estimation efficiency, these sampling rates were established based on the number of frame segments, that is, if the number of UPM of the Area Framework is higher, the sampling rate will be lower, and vice versa.
It should be noted that, in cases where the sample is less than 10, it must be adjusted by the sample minimums3, so that the sampling errors associated with the estimates can be calculated.
The objective of a sample survey is to make inferences about the population from the information contained in the sample. In this sense, expansion factors are used to take the information from the sample to population levels. It is defined as the inverse of the probability of including a segment in a given Selection Zone. For more information, refer to the related documents in the external repository.
