Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
This fifth-round survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews from 22 November to 31 December 2023. The fourth round was conducted in February 2023, while the third round in April 2022. Previous rounds covered different districts.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO conducted a fifth-round household survey in Pakistan from 22 November to 31 December 2023. The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews, reaching 11 584 rural households across three provinces: Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.

The survey employed a two-stage cluster sampling design. In the first stage, 188 enumeration areas (EAs) were selected across 47 districts, in the provinces of Balochistan (21 districts), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (11 districts), and Sindh (15 districts). In the second stage, households were randomly selected within each sampled EA, resulting in a total of 5106 households (44 percent) interviewed in Balochistan, 2735 (24 percent) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 3743 (32 percent) in Sindh.
Surveys are designed based on country-specific needs, objectives, and constraints. The sample design and size aim to achieve a 10% margin of error, a 95% confidence level, administrative-level granularity, for key variables within target populations, including agricultural households.
Base weights were applied, and they were calculated from population counts at the second administrative level (ADM2) to adjust for unequal selection probabilities across those districts.
