    Abstract

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) conducted a household survey through the Data in Emergencies Monitoring System between 31 January and 3 March 2022 to monitor agricultural livelihoods and food security in both rural and urban populations of Guatemala. Data was collected using a digital questionnaire across the 22 departments of the country, following the second planting season. However, results are presented only for the 20 departments that used the CATI (Computer-Assisted Telephone Interview) method. The final sample consisted of 4 305 households from 20 departments and 281 municipalities.

    Sampling

    Sampling Procedure

Data was collected using a digital questionnaire following the second planting season. The second round of the survey was conducted across all 22 departments of Guatemala with stratification at the department level (administrative level 1). However, results are presented only for the 20 departments where data collection was carried out via CATI (Computer-Assisted Telephone Interview). The final sample consisted of 4 305 households from 20 departments and 281 municipalities.

    Weighting

Sampling weights were applied to adjust for differences in population size across the 20 departments. Post-stratification weights were applied to correct for potential response bias. These weights included a wealth-based weight which used access to sanitation (hh_wealth_toilet) as a proxy indicator, and an education-based weight based on the highest education level of the household head. The final weight used in the analysis is the product of the design and post-stratification weights.
