    Abstract

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) conducted a household survey in Somalia through the Data in Emergencies Monitoring (DIEM-Monitoring) System to monitor agricultural livelihoods and food security. This sixth-round survey reached 2 917 households through Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI) conducted by GeoPoll from 3 June to 11 July 2023. Households were surveyed across all regions of Somalia except for Banadir which is mainly urban. The household interviews reached 160 agricultural households per region and included crop farmers, livestock keepers, and fisherfolk. Data collection took place during the post-harvest period. In addition to the random digit dialing (RDD) method, panel lists from previous rounds were used in the sampling design. The findings are representative at administrative level 1 (regional).

    Sampling

    Sampling Procedure

This sixth-round survey reached 2 917 households through computer-assisted telephone interviews conducted by GeoPoll from 3 June to 11 July 2023. Households were surveyed across all regions of Somalia except for Banadir, which is mainly urban. The household interviews reached 160 agricultural households per region and included crop farmers, livestock keepers, and fisherfolk. Data collection took place during the post-harvest period. In addition to random digit dialing (RDD) method, panel lists from previous rounds were used in the sampling design. The findings are representative at administrative level 1 (regional).

    Weighting

The data was weighted using both design (sampling) weights and post-stratification weights. Design weights accounted for population size to adjust the sample to the actual population distribution. Population size design weights were calculated by dividing the ratio of the stratum population and the total population (of the country) by the ratio of the stratum sample and the total sample (for the country). Post-stratification weights were applied using education level of the head of the household to correct for potential biases arising from varying response propensities among different subgroups within the population. The same formula as the population weights was applied to calculate the post-stratification weights. The final weight was then computed as the product of all weights (i.e., population weights and post-stratification weights).
