Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO conducted a sixth round of DIEM household survey between May and June 2023 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to assess agricultural livelihoods and food security. Data were collected via computer-assisted telephone interviews in 11 of the country’s 26 provinces (Ituri, Kasaï, Kasaï-Central, Kasaï-Oriental, Kwango, Nord-Kivu, Nord-Ubangi, Sud-Kivu, Sud-Ubangi, Tanganyika and Tshopo). A stratified simple random sampling design identified 2 745 agricultural and non-agricultural households. Data are representative at provincial level.

A stratified simple random sampling design identified 2745 agricultural and non-agricultural households. Data are representative at provincial level. Weights were calculated on the basis of population size and a wealth indicator (access to toilets). Data collection took place during the off-season.
The sample design and size aim to achieve a 10 percent margin of error, a 95 percent confidence level, administrative-level granularity, and sufficient sample sizes for key variables within target populations, including agricultural households.
