Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). The data collection for Round 9 of the DIEM Monitoring took place from 4 October 2024 to 1 November 2024. The survey interviewed 1337 rural households and was designed to be representative at the regional level (administrative level1) across eight regions: Kayes, Koulikoro, Sikasso, Ségou, Mopti, Timbuktu, Gao and Ménaka.

A total of 1337 rural households were surveyed across eight regions in Mali: Kayes, Koulikoro, Sikasso, Ségou, Mopti, Timbuktu, Gao and Ménaka. The sample was designed to be representative at the regional level (administrative level 1). Households were selected using a random digit dialing method from a phone listing of rural agricultural households. Data were collected during the harvest season using computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI).
Surveys are designed based on country-specific needs, objectives, and constraints. The sample design ensures a 10 percent margin of error and a 95 percent confidence level at the target administrative level and aims to achieve these precision levels for key variables within the targeted populations, including agricultural households.
Sampling weights were applied to ensure regional representativeness. Post-stratification adjustments were made based on population size, access to electricity, and the education level of the household head. These adjustments help align the sample with the known population distribution and socioeconomic characteristics, allowing for more accurate estimation of key indicators.
