    Sampling

    Sampling Procedure

The study employed a stratified multistage probability sampling technique. In the first stage, 132 educational institutions were selected, without replacement and with probability proportional to the estimated size (total number of children enrolled). The selected educational institutions in each area were assigned to the enumerator teams in a random order. The week prior to data collection, the field coordinator constructed the sampling frame of primary school students with regular attendance at each school, using the documentation provided by the school (such as enrollment lists, attendance records, or local registers). From this list, seven students were selected by simple random sampling, and their parents or guardians were contacted to schedule the interview on a randomly assigned day of the week (some were assigned a second interview day). In cases of non-acceptance, a replacement was selected at random.

    Weighting

The weighting factor was calculated considering the following:

    1. Weighting at the stratum level (selection of enrolled students by stratum) in the first stage
    2. Weighting at the student level (selection of primary school students) in the second stage
    3. Total number of enrolled students per stratum.

The information used included: the classification by stratum and the list of educational institutions, as well as the number of students recorded per institution and the number of students to be surveyed. These values were used to calculate the selection probabilities for the educational institutions and for the students, which were then used to compute the final weighting factor.
