The Halfway National Health and Nutrition Survey 2016 (ENSANUT MC, Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrición - Medio Camino) is a probabilistic national survey which collects representative information from national, regional, and rural/urban levels. The ENSANUT MC 2016 used a stratified multistage sample. The primary sampling unit was the basic geostatistical areas (AGEB, Áreas Geoestadísticas Básicas), that are census units in Mexico. In urban localities, the AGEB list of the Census of Population and Housing (CPV, Censo de Población y Vivienda) 2010 was used. In rural localities, the list of rural AGEBs used in the Count of Population and Housing (Conteo, Conteo de Población y Vivienda) 2005 was used with updated information from the 2010 Census.
The survey included information on 24-hour dietary recall of a random subsample of approximately 15 percent of total participants (n=4341).
Initial weights were computed using the age and sex distribution in the 2010 Census of the Mexican population. Final weights accounted for the complex survey design as well as for survey nonresponse and were used throughout the analyses. All analyses must consider the survey weights to accurately measure the precision of the estimators.

Dietary intake was assessed by using the 24-h recall (24HR) automated multiple-pass method.
People aged 15 years or older were asked about their food intakes. The person in charge of food preparation and distribution in the household was asked about ingredients and recipes of foods prepared at home, and also provided information on the intakes of children younger than 15 years old. The first and second 24HR interviews were administered on a randomly selected day of the week in order to obtain measurements on both weekdays and weekend days.
