Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security, and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO launched a Round 8, Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI) survey in all regions of the Niger (with the exception of the Niamey urban area): Agadez, Diffa, Dosso, Maradi, Tahoua, Tillabéry, and Zinder. The sample design specified that between 114 and 223 households be included in each region. However, to ensure that the data collected was representative at administrative level 2 in hot-spot areas of food insecurity, eight departments across the seven regions were oversampled. A total of 2132 households were surveyed between 26 October and 10 November 2023.

- LIVESTOCK MARKETING: livestock sale, livestock sale difficulties, livestock sale price
- FISHERIES PRODUCTION: fish activity, comparison of fish production
- FISHERIES MARKETING: fish sale, fish sale difficulties, fish sale price
- FOOD SECURITY AND CONSUMPTION: food consumption, food utilization, comping strategies
- NEEDS ASSISTANCE: open questions on the needs for assistance

Sampling
Data were collected via Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviews in all regions of the Niger (with the exception of the Niamey urban area): Agadez, Diffa, Dosso, Maradi, Tahoua, Tillabéry, and Zinder. The sample design specified that between 114 and 223 households be included in each region. However, to enable reliable analysis at administrative level 2 in areas particularly affected by food insecurity, eight departments across the seven regions were oversampled. A total of 2132 households were surveyed.
Weights were calculated as follows:
- Base weights to adjust for unequal probabilities of household selection, using the "strata" variable
- Post-stratification weights based on the status of households as crop producers and livestock producers, at administrative level 1
- Wealth weights using access to drinking water as a proxy for household wealth, at administrative level 1
- Education weights based on the education level of the household head, at administrative level 1. Due to the absence of baseline data on religious education, respondents who reported religious education were recoded as having no formal education

Data processing
The datasets have been edited and processed for analysis by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Data in Emergencies (DIEM) Hub at the Office of Emergencies and Resilience, with some dashboards and visualizations produced.
