Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security, and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO launched the Round 2, Face-to-Face (F2F) interviews survey between 7 September and 2 October 2023, to assess agricultural livelihoods and food security in Burkina Faso. Data were collected during the rainy season and reached 5528 households in 29 provinces across eight regions: Boucle du Mouhoun, Cascades, Centre-Est, Centre-Nord, Est, Hauts Bassins, Nord and Sahel. The survey estimates are representative at administrative level 2.

Scope
The survey collected information on the following areas:

- FOOD SECURITY AND CONSUMPTION: food consumption, food utilization, comping strategies
- NEEDS ASSISTANCE: open questions on the needs for assistance

Sampling
Interviews were conducted Face-to-Face (F2F), focusing on regions most affected by recent shocks due to budget constraints. Out of the country's 45 provinces, 5528 households were interviewed in 29 provinces across the following eight regions: Boucle du Mouhoun, Cascades, Centre-Est, Centre-Nord, Est, Hauts Bassins, Nord and Sahel. Between 129 and 212 households were sampled in each province. The survey estimates are representative at the second administrative level.
The General Directorate of Sectoral Studies and Statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture, with support from the National Institute of Statistics and Demography, provided the sampling frame for the survey. Households were selected using a probability sampling, namely systematic sampling. Specifically, the number of households per village or census tract (often provided by the village head) was divided by the fixed cluster size of six households, and households' dwellings were selected using the interval thus determined.
A standard weighting approach is used, though the specific combination of weights depends on factors such as sub-group quotas, availability of baseline data, and appropriate context-specific wealth indicators. Specifically, weighting was limited to base weights at administrative level 2, and it was calculated to correct for disproportionate sampling by accounting for differences in population size across administrative units.

Data processing
The datasets have been edited and processed for analysis by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Data in Emergencies (DIEM) Hub at the Office of Emergencies and Resilience, with some dashboards and visualizations produced.
