    Sampling

    Sampling Procedure

The sampling strategy employed was sampling by quotas, a non-probability technique that selects a specific number of participants (a quota) from population's subgroups to mirror the target population's characteristics. The adult population was stratified by sex, age and district of the city. Then, participants were identified by opportunistic sampling within subgroups in each Rosario Municipal District Centers (MCD) located in the six areas of the city (center, north, south, east, southwest, northwest), which were the primary sampling units. Individuals corresponding to the target population within these districts comprised the final sampling units.

The target population consisted of all inhabitants living in Rosario aged 18-70 years. The theoretical sample size was calculated taking into account the prevalence of overweight and obesity (53.0 percent), inadequate energy intake (57.0 percent), low physical activity (51 percent) from the Argentinian National Survey on Nutrition and Health. The study also took into account the prevalence of overweight and obesity (53.4 percent), smoking habit (27.1 percent) and daily consumption of fruits (35.7 percent) and vegetables (37.6 percent) from the Argentinian National Risk Factors Survey. Data was then adjusted according to the Rosario census. The sample was set at a minimum of 365 men and 374 women to achieve a relative precision of 5 percent (type I error = 0.05; type error II = 0.10) with a 95 percent confidence level.

    Weighting

No survey weights were used in this survey.

    Data Collection Notes

Food consumption was evaluated using one 24-hour food recall collected by trained nutrition students. The selected individuals were interviewed individually at the Municipal Centers of District. The consumption of everything eaten by individuals during the day before the survey was registered by consumption occasions, including food, beverages, as well as mineral and vitamin supplements. To help with quantity estimation, kitchen instruments were used. The composition of some preparations was standardized using basic and regional recipes according to the National Survey of Health and Nutrition.
