The aim of the study was to estimate the dietary adequacy of the first trimester pregnant women participating in a multi-country nutrition trial (Women First).

Scope
The survey collected information on:
- SUBJECTS: information on the participants such as age, sex, and geographical location
- CONSUMPTION: information on all foods consumed by each participant in each survey day, including quantities and nutrient values
Coverage
Sub-national, rural areas only.
The population group covered in the survey was adult pregnant women.

Sampling
For sample selection, simple random sampling was used. A total of 960 women were enrolled into two study arms (Arms 1 and 2). From these, 240 women were randomized for dietary assessment, which was conducted through two 24-hour dietary recalls. The two recalls were conducted 2 to 4 weeks apart, once pregnancy was confirmed and prior to 12 weeks' gestation. Half of the women were randomized from Arm 1 and half from Arm 2, and the latter group's diet was assessed prior to commencing supplementation.
No sample weights were used in this survey.

Dietary assessment of the participants was performed using two non-consecutive individual quantitative 24-hour recalls collected through paper questionnaires. Dietary recalls were collected on both weekdays and weekend days.

Micro datasets disseminated by FAO shall only be allowed for research and statistical purposes. - Any results derived from the micro dataset will be used solely for reporting aggregated information, and not for any specific individual entities or data subjects;
- The users shall not take any action with the purpose of identifying any individual entity (i.e. person, household, enterprise, etc.) in the micro dataset(s). If such a disclosure is made inadvertently, no use will be made of the information, and it will be reported immediately to FAO;
- The micro dataset cannot be re-disseminated by users or shared with anyone other than the individuals that are granted access to the micro dataset by FAO.
