Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO conducted the ninth round of household survey between May 20 and June 27 2024, during the beginning of the rainy season, to monitor agricultural livelihoods and food security in Niger. Data was collected by telephone in all regions of Niger, with the exception of the Niamey urban region: Agadez, Diffa, Dosso, Maradi, Tahoua, Tillabéry, Zinder. Data collection took place during the start of the rainy season.

Sampling
Surveys are designed based on country-specific needs, objectives, and constraints. The survey estimates are representative at regional level (administrative level 1) and the sample design ensures a 10 percent margin of error and a 95 percent confidence level. It aims to achieve these precision levels for key variables within the targeted populations, including agricultural households. Specifically, between 122 and 327 households were included in the sample for each region, with 2261 households interviewed in total.
Data was weighted during the analysis to ensure a proportionate representation of the population. The weights used for this survey were:
- base weights at strata level, to account for oversampling at the department level
- weights for crop producers and livestock producers at administrative level 1
- wealth weights using as proxy the access to drinkable water at administrative level 1 and education level of head of household at administrative level 1

Data was collected by telephone in all regions of Niger, with the exception of the Niamey urban region: Agadez, Diffa, Dosso, Maradi, Tahoua, Tillabéry, Zinder.

The datasets have been edited and processed for analysis by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Data in Emergencies (DIEM) Hub at the Office of Emergencies and Resilience, with some dashboards and visualizations produced.
