Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO carried out a thirteenth round of data collection using telephone interviews (CATI) in the 18 governorates of Iraq from 19 May to 15 June 2024, just before or during harvest for the main crops (wheat). A total of 2521 households were interviewed out of 2754 (92 percent of target; 1582 non-agricultural households and 939 agricultural households) using a panel survey, with a list of agricultural and non-agricultural households interviewed in the previous data collection rounds supplemented by Random Digit Dialing (RDD) to meet the target.

Sampling
Data collection was carried out using telephone interviews (CATI) in the 18 governorates of Iraq. A total of 2521 households were interviewed out of 2754 (92 percent of target; 1582 non-agricultural households and 939 agricultural households) using a panel survey, with a list of agricultural and non-agricultural households interviewed in the previous data collection rounds. The Random Digit Dialing (RDD) was used to supplement, in an effort to meet the target. Nevertheless, the target of 153 households per governorate was achieved only in Diyala. Therefore, a minimum sample of 30 agricultural households was then planned and achieved in all governorates except for Kerbela and Sulaimaniyah.
The data were weighted using three weights, all applied at the administrative level 1:
- Base weights
- Wealth weights, using access to flush toilets as a proxy for wealth
- Education weights, with religious education recoded as “no education”

Data processing
The datasets have been edited and processed for analysis by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Data in Emergencies (DIEM) Hub at the Office of Emergencies and Resilience, with some dashboards and visualizations produced.
