Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO launched Round 10 of the DIEM-Monitoring household survey in Niger to assess agricultural livelihoods and food security. Data collection took place between 18 October and 13 November 2024. The sample included 3583 households across all admin1 regions (Agadez, Diffa, Dosso, Maradi, Tahoua, Tillabéry and Zinder), except Niamey. In each region, one or two admin2 departments were oversampled to provide more granular insights.

Surveys are designed based on country-specific needs, objectives, and constraints. They aim to achieve a 10 percent margin of error, a 95 percent confidence level, administrative-level granularity, and sufficient sample sizes for key target populations, including agricultural households.
The DIEM Round 10 survey in Niger used a stratified sampling design with a focus on rural areas. Data were collected from all admin1 regions (excluding the urban Niamey region), with oversampling in six admin2 departments. Within each region, the rest of the departments were aggregated into one stratum. Between 270 and 810 households were surveyed per region.
Survey weights were applied based on population size, and a wealth indicator access to drinking water. These weights were used to adjust for the stratified sampling design and ensure population-level representativeness across surveyed regions.
