Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO launched a Round 10 telephone interviews (CATI) survey in the 18 governorates of Iraq from 28 February to 21 March 2023, at the growing season for the main crops (wheat and barley). A total of 2609 households were interviewed (1632 non-agricultural households and 977 agricultural households) using a panel list of agricultural households (interviewed in the previous data collection rounds) and the Random Digit Dialing (RDD) approach to complete the target.

Surveys are designed based on country-specific needs, objectives, and constraints. They aim to achieve a 10 percent margin of error, a 95 percent confidence level, administrative-level granularity, and sufficient sample sizes for key target populations, including agricultural households.
A total of 2609 households were interviewed (1632 non-agricultural households and 977 agricultural households) using a panel list of agricultural households (interviewed in the previous data collection rounds) and the Random Digit Dialing (RDD) approach to complete the target. The sample target of 136 households per governorate was not reached only in Sulaimaniya and Maysan governorates, but it was close to the target and therefore the data collected in these governorates was considered representative at governorate level and the survey findings are representative at national level. Quotas could not be applied due to the small size of the agricultural population. To increase the likelihood of capturing this subgroup, a 10 percent precision level (margin of error) was selected, which allows for a larger sample size.
The weighting strategy combines demographic and socioeconomic adjustments to enhance the representativeness of the sample:
-Base weights (adm1 level): These were calculated to reflect the probability of selection within each governorate. They adjust for differences in sample sizes across regions and ensure proportional representation.
-Wealth weights (adm1 level): Access to flush toilets was used as a proxy indicator for household wealth.
-Education-level weights (adm0 level): The education level of the household head was used as an additional proxy for socioeconomic status. Due to the absence of baseline data on religious education, respondents reporting this were recoded as having "no education". These weights were calculated at the national level (ADM0), given the lack of reliable subnational data.
