Individual Food Consumption/Dietary Survey [hh/ifcs]
This study represents the third food consumption survey on a national scale in Italy, which established the core of the information system with data on the Italian diet for nutrition and food consumption monitoring purposes. Such data contributes to the decision-making basis for food policy interventions.
Primary (consumption) databases, support databases for processing (food, recipes, composition, portions), manuals, photographic atlases and protocols are important products of this work. They were also developed for the purpose of future use for updating food consumption data.

Food consumption was self-recorded by subjects for three consecutive days, on hard-copy diaries, structured by meal. All foods, beverages, food supplements and medicines ingested were registered. Each field worker met each participant individually three times during the survey period. Data processing was carried out using INRAN-DIARIO 3, a software developed by Dev4U S.r.l.s. The sampling unit was the household; the analysis unit was the individual as all data was collected at individual level. An additional questionnaire for the whole family was added to capture food procurements habits. Weekdays and weekend days were proportionally included.
