Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The objective of this survey is to estimate, using statistical tools and methods, the production of irrigated crops throughout the country.
The data collected cover:
The survey also examines constraints affecting production, including access to resources and financing, farming practices, crop protection, and post-harvest management.

The “Irrigated Crops” module of the Second General Agricultural Census (RGA II) is based on a stratified two-stage sampling design. The country is divided into 45 study domains corresponding to the provinces, which constitute the explicit strata. Sampling is conducted independently within each province.
The primary sampling units (PSUs) are villages where irrigated crops are cultivated, identified during Phase I of the RGA II through the comprehensive inventory of production sites. The secondary sampling units (SSUs) are agricultural producers (market gardeners and other irrigated-crop producers) within those villages.
At the first stage, villages are selected without replacement using probability proportional to size (PPS) sampling, where size is measured by the number of irrigated-crop producers in each village.
At the second stage, producers are selected by simple random sampling (SRS) within the selected villages and their respective strata. A fixed number of 16 producers per village is surveyed.
The sample size was determined to ensure an approximate 10 percent margin of error for key indicators. The theoretical sample includes 9536 producers distributed across 596 villages. At the end of data collection, 9242 producers were successfully surveyed.
The sample is representative at the provincial level, owing to an allocation proportional to the size of each province in terms of the number of irrigated-crop producers, based on the RGA II sampling frame. Adjustments were made to limit sampling effects and high coefficients of variation.
Stratification is explicit at the provincial level.
With regard to non-response, no systematic replacement strategy is explicitly mentioned. The difference between the theoretical sample size (9536) and the achieved sample size (9242) reflects cases of non-response or units that could not be surveyed.
For a detailed description of the sampling methodology (including calculation formulas, design effects, and adjustments), refer to the RGA II Methodological Report, Irrigated Crops Module, produced by the Directorate General for Sectoral Studies and Statistics (DGESS/MAERAH).
A discrepancy is observed between the theoretical sample size (9,536 producers) and the achieved sample size (9,242 producers), representing a difference of approximately 3.1%. This gap may be attributable to operational factors such as non-response, respondent absence, or difficulties in locating certain producers at the time of data collection.
No detailed information is provided in the report regarding possible unit substitutions, area exclusions, or biases related to access constraints (e.g., security issues, weather conditions, or other logistical challenges).
Consequently, the overall sample structure is considered to be consistent with the original sampling design, subject to adjustments made to account for non-response.
The response rate was approximately 97 percent, calculated using the following formula:
Response Rate = Number of responding units / Total number of selected units
COEF1DEF: sampling weight applied to village-level data.
COEFTOT_DEF: final sampling weight applied to farm/operator-level data.
The Irrigated Crops module uses two questionnaires:

Data files, including any files derived from these data, shall not be shared with anyone other than the research team members identified in this agreement, unless formal authorization is granted by the Directorate General for Sectoral Studies and Statistics (DGESS) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources (MAERAH).
The data shall be used exclusively for statistical or scientific research purposes and under no circumstances for the investigation of natural or legal persons. The results of this work shall be presented in the form of aggregated statistics. The data may not be used for administrative, property-related, or legal purposes.
The principal investigator must notify any intention to merge the data files with individual-level data from another source or study. In such cases, detailed information must be provided to the DGESS-MAERAH regarding the nature of the files and the purpose of the data linkage. Any dataset resulting from such a merger shall be treated in the same manner as the original data files supplied by the data provider and shall be subject to the same access and use conditions.
The principal investigator guarantees that adequate measures will be taken to prevent access to the data by unauthorized persons. The data files shall be destroyed upon completion of the research project unless DGESS-MAERAH receives satisfactory assurances that the data will be securely retained and the recipient organization obtains formal authorization to keep them. Destruction of the data files shall be confirmed in writing by the principal investigator.
Any book, article, publication, thesis, report, or other work using data obtained from the data provider shall cite the data source in accordance with the specified conditions. However, the researcher must clearly distinguish between data generated through their own analyses and data provided by DGESS-MAERAH.
An electronic copy of all reports and publications (excluding books) produced using these data shall be submitted to DGESS-MAERAH and to the National Institute of Statistics and Demography (INSD).
This agreement shall take effect on the date authorization to use the data is granted and shall remain valid until the completion of the research project (whether as originally planned or completed earlier than anticipated).
If changes are made to the project definition, security arrangements, personnel, or organization described in this agreement, it is the responsibility of the principal investigator to obtain DGESS-MAERAH's approval for such changes. If the principal investigator changes organization, a new application for authorization to use the data must be submitted, as this agreement shall no longer be valid.
Violations of this agreement shall be carefully reviewed by DGESS-MAERAH, which shall take appropriate action against those responsible, whether the violations are intentional or accidental. Failure to comply with this agreement may result in legal proceedings. DGESS-MAERAH shall maintain a record of individuals and organizations responsible for such violations, may share this record with other archives and data centers, and may impose restrictions on future access to data by those individuals and organizations.
