Agricultural Census [ag/census]
The first Agriculture Census was conducted in Azerbaijan in 1921. After the creation of large Collective and State Farms in 1932, statistical data was obtained from State Statistical Records, while information on the population’s own subsidiary farms was collected with sample observations and complete records. Surveys on vineyard, garden and berry plantations were conducted periodically since 1940. Cattle surveys are carried out annually, on 1 January. However, the Agricultural Census 2005 is the first comprehensive Agricultural Census conducted in Azerbaijan.
Radical changes occurred regarding the social and field structure of agriculture as a result of agrarian reforms in 1995 due to re-establishment of market relations in the country’s economy. There was a substantial need for precise statistical data on individual farms not only on large farms, for information such as labor force in agriculture, cattle and poultry numbers, sowing area of agriculture plants, perennials herbs, peasant and farmer farms’ lands, agricultural enterprises.
Detailed information on the structure of agriculture obtained from the agriculture census will be used for a corresponding database for statistical work and the correct determination of the directions of the future development of the country’s agriculture.
