The 2014 AC is the first Agricultural Census conducted in Armenia. The Agricultural Census will be conducted once in every 10 years in compliance with international rule and standards.
Abstract
The purpose of conducting an Agricultural Census (AC) in the Republic of Armenia is to obtain information about the structure of agriculture in the country, establish an integral survey system of statistical data on agriculture, create a statistical register for rural households, and ensure comparability with international statistical data.

The data collected during the census will be used to create systems of monitoring indices for poverty monitoring, food security monitoring, agricultural programming and relevant policy development, maintenance of gender-based statistics, improvement of the quality of the current statistics, delivery of more comprehensive information to consumers etc. The data will also enable improvement of the current statistics in the sphere of agriculture, establish a complete system on statistical information about agriculture, create statistical registers for entities engaged in agriculture, develop the sampling tools for statistics and ensure their compliance with the current standards and criteria, identify trends in changes of agricultural infrastructures and specify a more detailed composition and structure of agriculture as an entrepreneurship.

Universe
Universe includes individual (rural) households, individual agricultural holdings of urban population, individual holdings of members of horticultural associations, communities, all agricultural holdings with legal status, private entrepreneurs, and, collective holdings (penitentiary institutions, military units, social care institutions for the elderly and disabled, educational institutions, and scientific experimantal units).

The Agricultural Census has also considered the units which implemented the following types of agricultural activities (irrespective of whether the agricultural activities were their major or secondary type of activity):
- Cultivation of agricultural crops (grain crops and leguminous crops, technical crops, potato, vegetable crops, melon crops, forage crops, fruit and berries, grapes).
- Cultivation of flowers, mushroom, saplings, seedlings, etc.
- Livestock and poultry breeding.
- Production of plant cultivation and cattle-breeding products.
- Activities related to maintaining the agricultural lands in favourable agricultural and environmental conditions, etc.

The Agricultural Census did not consider the units which have only the following:
- Stables, areas designated for horse riding,
- Slaughter- houses or points of animal sale.

The units engaged only in the following activities were not considered either:
- Hunting and forestry.

Sampling Procedure
The Agricultural Census (AC), 2014 was carried out by conducting a full enumeration of the Census Units. However, only 10% of the total is shared through the microdata file.

Confidentiality
The authorized body of the 2014 Agricultural Census (AC), will ensure the confidentiality of initial (individual) data in line with sub-paragraph 3, paragraph 1, Article 6 of the law of the Republic of Armenia on Agricultural Census. Only summary data are processed and published.
