    This is the first survey of its kind conducted in Tanzania using Point Sample Area Frame Methodology. Therefore, it limits the comparisons with the previous agriculture censuses and survey data due to the different methodologies applied. The survey collected detailed information on area and production for major crops, potentially livestock and fish farming.

    The scope of the Annual Agriculture Sample Survey includes: the point details, farm operator details, farm area, crops during short rainy season of 2014/15 agriculture year, crops during long rainy season of 2014/15 agriculture year, livestock and fish farming.
    The following topics were covered: farm ownership, land tenure, crop production, crop prices, livestock population and fish production.

    Sampling

    Sampling Procedure

    The point sampling frame method was used to select a statistically sound sample of farm operators; as against the household-based sampling methods previously used. A total of 21,210 sample points were selected, while a total of 15,281 points were completed. This method was used as there were no reliable sampling frame identified, as information on farm operators were not readily available for consistent monitoring or sampling.

    Data Editing

    All data were entered manually using CSPro by a staff hired specifically for editing and data entry. Prior to data entry, all questionnaires were cleaned manually to maintain the quality of the data. This involved checking to see if the questionnaire was complete, had correct identifications and correctly filled information.

    3. Not attempt to identify any particular person or undertaking or business;
    4. Use of information for research or statistically purpose only;
    5. Not to disclose the information to any other person or organization;
    6. When required by the Director General, return all documents made available to him.

    The dataset has been anonymized and available as a public use dataset. It is accessible to all for statistical and research purposes only, under the following terms and conditions:

    1. The data and other material will not be redistributed or sold to other individuals, institutions, or organization without the written agreement of the Tanzania National Bureau of Statistics.
    2. The data will be used for statistical and scientific research purposes only. They will be used solely for reporting of aggregated information, and not for investigation of specific individuals or organizations.
    3. No attempt will be made to produce links among dataset provided by the National Bureau of Statistics, or among data from the (National Bureau of Statistics) and other datasets that could identify individuals.
