During the electronic data processing, the field supervisors were asked to encode 1 if CODE 2 - Wholesaler is encircled as one of the sample farmer's buyers of tomato produce.
The encoded number one (1) acts much like a "tick mark" and allowed the data processing system to count the responses pertaining to the said type of buyer.
