The particularity of this survey is that it is the first to combine food security, nutrition and resilience (FSNR).
The survey is repeated every three (3) to five (5) years.
The government of Senegal has opted to conduct an integrated food security, nutrition and resilience survey (ENSANR) in January-February 2019. This is a nationwide statistical survey conducted according to the SMART model and has been organised in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Action (MSAS).
The ENSANR is a stratified, two-stage sample survey. The calculation of the size of the different samples was carried out using the ENA software, July 2015 version. The sample was drawn by the Agence nationale de la Statistique et de la Démographie (ANSD) with the sampling frame from the 2013 RGPHAE.
The RDs and households were drawn using the systematic drawing procedure. Within each selected household, all children aged 0-59 months were included in the sample.
Data collection was done using tablets via the SapMobil application. The data entered was sent daily to the platform for quality and completeness analysis and feedback to supervisors and team leaders in the field.
The survey is repeated every three (3) to five (5) years.

The sampling method chosen for this survey was a two-stage systematic cluster random sampling.
The selection of the census districts was done by a systematic random draw based on the probability proportional to the population size of the primary sampling units (PSUs). This is done at each stratum level independently.
The second stage of sampling consisted of the selection of households within the drawn PDs. The selection of households was done using the systematic random method with a sampling step (P).
In total, the sample consisted of 16 strata, 515 census districts (CDs), 7,847 households, 11,684 children under 5 years of age and 12,783 women.
0.2% (2 RDs) of Dakar's census districts not visited
5.2% of planned households not surveyed (only Diourbel, Fatick, Kaffrine and Kolda regions had 100%)
99,8 % for census districts
94,8 % for households

Data collection was carried out by 32 teams of 4 agents throughout the country. Each team was composed of two interviewers and two measuring agents. Two (02) pairs, i.e. 4 interviewers, were responsible for interviewing one stratum independently of the others. Each pair was made up of one interviewer who was familiar with the collection tablet and another who was an anthropometric measurer. These questionnaires were converted into an electronic version that could be downloaded onto tablets using the Android operating system.
The collection was done with the tablets via the Sapmobil application version 1.6v developed under WLanguage and JAVA. The paper version of the "child anthropometry" questionnaire was also used as a support in all households. The data collected via SapMobil are sent to a server housed at the SE-CNSA where they are decoded and exported in Excel format for the purposes of auditing and analysis.
Anthropometric equipment: A SECA scale for weight measurement, a graduated toise for height measurement and brachial ribbons for measuring brachial preperimeter were made available to each pair.
