Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
This seventh-round survey was conducted between 22 January and 19 February 2024. The sixth round was conducted in October 2023 during the rainy season, the fifth round in August 2023 during the dry season, the fourth round in September 2022 at the start of the rainy season, and the third round in March 2022 in the off-season.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO conducted a computer-assisted telephone interviews survey in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to assess agricultural livelihoods and food security between 22 January and 19 February 2024. Data collection took place during the harvest season in 11 of the country’s 26 provinces (Ituri, Kasai, Kasai Central, Kasai Oriental, Nord-Kivu, Nord Ubangi, Sud-Kivu, Sud-Ubangi, Kwango, Tshopo and Tanganyika). Data are representative at the provincial level. For more information, see https://data-in-emergencies.fao.org/pages/monitoring.

This survey was carried out in 11 of the 26 provinces (Ituri, Kasai, Kasai Central, Kasai Oriental, Nord-Kivu, Nord Ubangi, Sud-Kivu, Sud-Ubangi, Kwango, Tshopo and Tanganyika) of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A total of 2 723 agricultural and non-agricultural households were interviewed using a computer-assisted telephone survey approach. These households were randomly selected according to a stratified simple random sampling design, with minimal design effect.
Surveys are designed based on country-specific needs, objectives, and constraints. The sample design and size aim to achieve a 10% margin of error, a 95% confidence level, administrative-level granularity, for key variables within target populations, including agricultural households.
The final weights were constructed by multiplying:
Crop producers were identified using a standard proxy based on reported agricultural activity ("hh_agricactivity") and income sources ("income_main", "income_sec", "income_third").
These weights ensure that the sample distribution reflects the actual population distribution and correct for any over- or under-sampling in specific areas.
