Individual Food Consumption/Dietary Survey [hh/ifcs]
The objectives of the survey were to:
- Identify covariates of obesity including socio-economic, dietary, geographical, and physical activity patterns
- Determine the prevalence of non-communicable diseases and their risk factors in Lebanon using reported morbidity and biochemical measures
- Collect data on dietary trends, and identify changes that occurred in diet composition over time in Lebanon

Scope
The survey collected information on:
- SUBJECTS: information on the participants, such as age, sex, and geographical location
- CONSUMPTION: information on all foods consumed by each participant in each survey day, including quantities and nutrient values
Coverage
National coverage, both urban and rural areas.
The population group covered in the survey was the general population of five years or older.

Sampling
The survey was based on a nationally representative sample of individuals aged 5 years and older. Households were selected using a stratified cluster sampling design, with the Lebanese governorates forming the strata and the districts within the governorates forming the clusters. Within clusters, households were selected at random using probability proportional to size sampling; taking into account the distribution of the Lebanese population classified by sex and age groups (5-year intervals) as estimated by the Central Administration for Statistics in Lebanon in 2004. Sample size calculation was performed based on previously estimated prevalence rates for obesity. As such, the prevalence rate of obesity (17 percent among adults) was taken as the reference within an allowed error of 1.5 percent and 95 percent confidence.
The field work was conducted between March 2008 and October 2009 with a final sample including 3 656 subjects. The final dataset, after implementation of exclusion criteria, contained the records of 1 515 males and 1 581 females, a total of 3 096 individuals.
No surveys weights were used in this survey.

Dietary intake was assessed using the multiple pass 24-hour dietary recall approach. Interviewers followed the five steps of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Automated Multiple-Pass Method to collect the 24-hour dietary recalls. The steps were:

- Forgotten foods list
- Time and occasion at which foods were consumed
- Detail cycle
- Final probe review
The interviewer obtained information regarding the food consumed by the participant, its portion size, preparation methods, and the brand of foods and beverages consumed, if applicable. To assist subjects in assessing the portion/amount of food consumed, quantification tools, such as household measures and graduated food models, were used.

Micro datasets disseminated by FAO shall only be allowed for research and statistical purposes. - Any results derived from the micro dataset will be used solely for reporting aggregated information, and not for any specific individual entities or data subjects;
- The users shall not take any action with the purpose of identifying any individual entity (i.e. person, household, enterprise, etc.) in the micro dataset(s). If such a disclosure is made inadvertently, no use will be made of the information, and it will be reported immediately to FAO;
- The micro dataset cannot be re-disseminated by users or shared with anyone other than the individuals that are granted access to the micro dataset by FAO.
