Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security, and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO launched a sixth-round survey in Mali between 21 September and 17 October 2023. It reached 1490 households through Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI) to monitor agricultural livelihoods and food security. Data were collected across nine regions: Gao, Kayes, Kidal Koulikoro, Ménaka, Mopti, Ségou, Sikasso, and Tombouctou. The targeted number of respondents was reached in all regions except for Kidal where only 51 percent of the targeted households were interviewed.

This sixth-round survey reached 1490 households through Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI). The survey is representative at the regional level and the sampling plan was designed with a 10 percent margin of error.
A standard weighting approach is used, though the specific combination of weights depends on factors such as subgroup quotas, availability of baseline data, and appropriate context-specific wealth indicators. Specifically, weights were applied based on population size, the percentage of agricultural households and wealth indicators (access to toilets and level of education), at administrative level 1.
