Agricultural Survey [ag/oth]
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO launched the sixth round of the DIEM-Monitoring household survey in Pakistan to assess rural agricultural livelihoods and food security. Data collection took place from 14 August to 4 September 2024. A total of 6292 households were surveyed across 24 rural districts in Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. The sample was representative at the district level and was weighted using demographic data.

Scope
The survey collected information on the following areas:

- CROP PRODUCTION: crops planted, area planted, area harvested, crop production difficulties
- CROP MARKETING: crop sale difficulties, crop sale price
- LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION: types of livestock present on holding, number of livestock, livestock production difficulties
- LIVESTOCK MARKETING: livestock sale, livestock sale difficulties, livestock sale price
- FISHERIES PRODUCTION: fish activity, comparison of fish production
- FISHERIES MARKETING: fish sale, fish sale difficulties, fish sale price
- FOOD SECURITY AND CONSUMPTION: food consumption, food utilization, comping strategies
- NEEDS ASSISTANCE: open questions on the needs for assistance

Sampling
Surveys are designed based on country-specific needs, objectives, and constraints. They aim to achieve a 10 percent margin of error, a 95 percent confidence level, administrative-level granularity, and sufficient sample sizes for key target populations, including agricultural households.
The survey applied a stratified sampling design targeting 24 rural districts across Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. The sampling was representative at the district level. Households were selected to capture variability across agricultural settings (e.g., irrigated, rainfed, desert zones) and types of livelihood engagement (crop, livestock, mixed, and non-agricultural).
Weighting was applied using demographic information to ensure that results are representative of the rural populations within the selected districts. Adjustments considered key variables such as household size and structure to align the sample with population distributions. Weights allow for valid estimation of food security and livelihood indicators at the district level.

Data processing
The datasets have been edited and processed for analysis by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Data in Emergencies (DIEM) Hub at the Office of Emergencies and Resilience, with some dashboards and visualizations produced. STATISTICAL DISCLOSURE CONTROL (SDC)
The dataset was anonymized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Data in Emergencies (DIEM) Hub and reviewed by the Statistics Division, using Statistical Disclosure methods in accordance with FAO Corporate Statistical Disclosure Control Protocol.
